CHLEBOTEKA – a modernist gem in the centre of Wrocław

For nearly 90 years, Okrąglak has been a part of everyday life in Wrocław. Today, thanks to a collaboration between two brands with roots in Wrocław—Chleboteka and CUDO—it is once again opening its doors to residents. From the very beginning, the most important goal was to restore the connection between the building and Kościuszki Square. For years, the city looked in toward the interior of Okrąglak. Today, that direction is reversed: the interior opens up to the street, and the street naturally flows inside.

The design for Chleboteka’s Wrocław bakery was created in one of the city’s most distinctive modernist pavilions—Okrąglak on Kościuszki Square. The starting point was the building’s architecture: its rounded form, history, and strong relationship with the urban space. We carried the motif of the arch and the circle over to the counter, built-in fixtures, ceiling, and details, creating a contemporary interior that enhances the character of the existing structure rather than competing with it.

Within a small footprint, we combined the sales area, coffee preparation area, storage spaces, and full technical facilities. The project also encompassed the outdoor space—a continuous bench surrounding the pavilion extends the café’s function beyond its walls and reintegrates Okrąglak into the daily life of Kościuszki Square.
