The bistro design project in Wrocław for Hubertus was a reinterpretation of a venue that had been run by the same family for over 40 years. We took the history of Polish bars and bistros from the 1980s as our starting point, translating it into a contemporary interior design language—featuring bottle green, natural plywood, steel, concrete, and handcrafted tiles.

Functionality was particularly important in this small space. Instead of a classic bar, we designed a long built-in unit inspired by a wall unit, which houses all the bar equipment while maintaining an open, comfortable space for guests. The project also included a refresh of the visual identity, ensuring that the brand’s history, the interior, and Hubertus’s new look form a single, cohesive concept. The restaurant has evolved from a milk bar to a contemporary bistro, so the design aimed to preserve its recognizability and nostalgic character while preparing the venue for years to come. Elements inspired by 1980s Polish design were used not as retro decoration, but as a starting point for creating a new identity for the space.
